Tribunal for Local Self Government Institutions
The Tribunal for Local Self Government Institutions is responsible for considering and adjudicating appeals and reviews against the decisions of local government bodies. The tribunal is headed by a legal expert of District Judge rank. The tribunal is also empowered to express opinions if any reference is received from the government regarding the legality and efficiency of decisions taken by local bodies.
Petitions must be filed before the tribunal in Form C within 30 days from the date of the order being complained against. With the permission of the tribunal, a representation or correction may be submitted with a delay of up to one month. If a representation submitted to a local body is not resolved within 60 days, a petition needs only to be filed before the tribunal within 90 days. Since there is a possibility of respondents opposing this petition, self-certified copies of the petition, relevant other documents, and affidavits as far as possible can be delivered to the tribunal directly or by registered post. Along with the petition, a Demand Draft (DD) of 50 rupees encashable at the tribunal's Thiruvananthapuram office must be enclosed. Additionally, a Legal Benefit Fund stamp of 100 rupees must be affixed to the petition.
